President's Project (2019-2021)

"Dedicated to Delaware" is the theme for this Administration, and I am very pleased to introduce it to garden club members and others.

Please join me in improving the Welcome Center Garden at First State Heritage Park and the Children's Garden at Brecknock Park and reducing litter throughout our State.

 

PART 1 - WELCOME CENTER GARDEN, FIRST STATE HERITAGE PARK

Address: 121 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., North, Dover, DE 19901
Time Frame: June 2019-April 2020

Purpose: To give DFGC a visual presence at a frequently visited location and to simulate interest in joining garden clubs.

Project Cost: $1000. Purchasing and planting native plants and annuals for seasonal color. Permanent plaque to identify the contribution.

Description of Project: To beautify and enhance the existing garden beds at the Welcome Center entrance.

A kiosk inside will provide printed information about DFGC and our website.

PART 2 - CHILDREN'S GARDEN AT BRECKNOCK PARK

Address: 80 Old Camden Road, Camden, Delaware 19934

Time Frame: June 2019-September 2020

Purpose: To provide garden experience for children through innovative planting

and displays; to stimulate interest in DFGC and increase membership.

Project Cost: $2000. Purchasing accessories, equipment and plants to enhance

the existing native plant garden. Permanent engraved rocks to honor each

contributing club.

Description of Project: Brecknock Park is a very popular Kent County Park

visited by all ages. A  favorite point of interest is Picadeilly Castle, a large playscape. Near the castle is a ranative plants/butterfly garden. The garden has a water feature and is surrounded by a rail fence. A covered pavilion is adjacent. The garden has a paved path and many shade trees. There are many vacant areas that could use more plants and attractions that would appeal to children of all ages.

PART 3 - ANTI-LITTER CAMPAIGN

Address: Statewide
Time Frame: September 2019-June 2021

Purpose: To increase public awareness of the issue of increased amount of litter and to educate our youth

Project Cost: TBD

Description of Project: Partner with the State Anti-litter Campaigns b provide educational materials to be used in our schools to increase awareness of our environment and to instill a sense of respect for our environment.
